A Night for the Sea

The sea has always been at the heart of Beachouse

On Sunday 12 July, Beachouse came together with the Vellmarí Association and marine conservationist Manu San Félix for the first edition of A Night for the Sea — an evening dedicated to protecting one of the Mediterranean’s greatest natural treasures: Posidonia oceanica.

Beneath the waters of Ibiza and Formentera lies an extraordinary underwater forest. Posidonia keeps our waters clear, captures carbon dioxide, produces oxygen, protects our coastline and provides an essential habitat for marine life. It is fundamental to the Mediterranean we know and love, yet increasingly threatened by climate change, pollution, irresponsible anchoring and human activity.

For one evening, we gathered around a shared table by the sea to celebrate it — and to understand more about what we can do to protect it.

Marine conservationist Manu San Félix, who has dedicated more than three decades to protecting the marine ecosystems of Ibiza and Formentera, took us beneath the surface through his stories and experiences, alongside a photography exhibition created in collaboration with National Geographic.

Mediterranean dining, live music and conversation brought our community together around a shared purpose: giving something back to the sea that gives us so much.

Throughout the evening, fundraising initiatives supported the work of the Vellmarí Association and its Posidonia conservation, restoration and education projects across Ibiza and Formentera.

A Night for the Sea was the first of what we hope will be many gatherings dedicated to the Mediterranean and its future.

Because caring for this island also means caring for the waters that surround it.
